United States Postal Service
Increasing access to mail services in rural areas
2016
BACKGROUND
Across the US, even the most remote towns have their own Post Office. That's because Congress enacted a "universal service obligation" that mandates USPS to provide access and services to all Americans, no matter where they live. Almost half of all Post Office locations are in rural areas, yet they generate a mere 5% of revenue. The USPS can’t cut services, so they cut operations, resulting in reduced hours and access across the country.
OUR CHALLENGE
Increase access to the mail services in rural post offices.
THE IDEA
Use computer vision technology to make shipping a package on your own as easy as shipping with a clerk. Any. Time. Of. Day.
MY ROLE
I worked on this project as a Senior User Experience Designer at AKQA in 2016.
